In love with a shawl

Here is my latest shawl

Even though I made it I can't help but stop and look at it and think wow :)

The pattern is so beautiful. (It's a free Drops pattern called Tranquility if you're interested)

The yarn is 100% silk DK and was a joy to work with. It's my second shawl with this yarn and I've still got one cone of it left - I'm already planning my next shawl!

And what do you think of my model?

After much pondering I finally decided to buy myself a mannequin and I am SO glad I did! She's the perfect model, never complains ;) She arrived this morning and I wasted no time in taking some photos!

Here was the before pic of the shawl:

Silk really gives in the  blocking process so when I was making the shawl I wasn't too sure when to stop.

Over Easter in Granada I found a new yarn shop that I'd not been to before so I just had to call in :)

I got some cotton thread

and a new hook

I've not used Knit Pro soft grip hooks before. Knit pro wooden hooks are my favourite so I hope that this one being the same make will be just as good! How about you? What hooks do you like best?

  7. The shawl is beautiful! I have never worked with 100% silk yarn, but I might give it a try, it looks gorgeous after blocking!

  9. What a beauty!! Great job :-). And such a mannequin is really handy! Concerning crochet hooks, my focus is on the form first, because I hold my hook like a knife, not like a pencil. So I don’t get along with those hooks whose handles are (partly) flat. I need completely round ones. Soft grip hooks I have got two. The material is very pleasant, there’s nothing to say!! My soft grip hook with a round handle is from Prym and very good, but working with the other flat one is uncomfortable. I think it was from Knit Pro, but I’m not sure. I can't make it out exactly, is that a flat one on your photo? But anyhow I cannot say anything against the quality, it’s only because of the form for me!

  12. Beautiful shawl and blocked just right. I am a crochet novice and have a variety of hooks. My favourite is the Clover soft hook which looks just like the one in your photo.

  15. I like those knit pro hooks. And the clover ones too - they are far easier on my hands and elbow than straight handled hooks.

Your shawl is stunning. I am going to a wedding in May - wonder whether I could make something similar in time for that?

  18. Wow, your shawl is so beautiful! And I'm surprised how different it was before the blocking process. I bet it looks much better on the maker than the model though :-) x

  28. This shawl is amazing. I have to look up the pattern. I love Sally Hansen hooks because they have a flat edge on the inside of the hook that works well for me. Found your site a the From Dream to Reality link party. New follower here!
